Los Angeles based artist John Espinosa works primarily in sculpture and installation. Whereas much of his work does often involve nature and animals in general, in can be easly to tie his art to ideas of ecology and the environment. However, Espinosa’s artwork really seems to simultaneously go beyond that and be rather personal. He is often concerned with knowledge and belief, but particularly the way it exists between people. Several of his sculptures depict animals joined by a jagged electric structure, as if communicating or interacting through it. At times the animals seemed frightened or aggressive and other times as if in the middle of a trance but still all joined, perhaps references to shared belief systems.
